Heritage in Every Knot
The fine bandhani of Gujrat comes from the town of Bhuj in Kutch. It is believed to have been brought to India by the Khatri community, who migrated from Sindh. The Bandhani here is distinguished by its intricate tying and Dying to create intricate patterns. The Bandhana technique is practiced by women in every house in Bhuj. Firstly the Khakha is made in buttersheet and pinned. After that the design is transferred onto Fabric and knots are tied by lifting fabric and tying it to resist the dye penetration. In kutch they use gaji silk and nepthol dyes to get the intricate bandhani.
