Folk-art from Lord Rama-Sita’s wedding.

A Mithila Art Tradition

This is a folk-art technique, also called Mithila art, and is found in the villages of Madhubani and Darbhanga. This art form is fabled to have started when Lord Janak assigned some artists to capture the wedding of Prince Rama with Princess Sita in the form of paintings on the walls.

Centuries ago, women first made these paintings on freshly plastered walls and floors of their mud huts. This technique was handed down for generations and is now made on cloth, paper, papier mâché articles, leather, wood etc. For making it artisan use a fountain pen nib dipped in Acrylic Color for fine outline and detailed filled (Bharana).
